I've been a devoted fan of Southern Gospel music since the first time I heard a quartet sing LeRoy Abernathy's hit song, "The Gospel Boogie," six decades ago.
The group singing was the guest artist on the Bowman Family's Saturday night radio program.
I was fascinated by the low bass notes and the high tenor's solo. The senior Bowman was a member of my church; his youngest son, Max, was one of my best friends.
